Sheraton Bridal Show
We were at the bridal show last Sunday and I just wanted to comment really quick on it. We always have a lot of fun doing them and meeting all the future brides and grooms. Are there any new readers who were at the show?

Event Review – Kate and Joseph’s Reception
Beach Boyz Entertainment had another amazing weekend this past weekend (10/4/10). The site of this unbelievable wedding reception was the Bohemian National Hall in Cleveland. Ryan Corbett one of Beach Boyz most requested dj ‘s captivated the audience of 215 guests at Kate and Joseph’s reception. Joel Skinner, former 3rd base coach of the Cleveland Indians led of the reception welcoming the guests. Also in attendance was former Tribe skipper Eric Wedge. Aaron Patterson from Visualizations Photography snapped the photos as guests kept the dance floor full all night. We wish Kate and Joseph the very best.
Blue Man Group comes to Cleveland’s Playhouse Square
Last night I was lucky enough to get a chance to see and review the Blue Man Group for the Playhouse Square “Review Crew” (www.playhousesquare.org/reviewcrew). This was the first show ever that the Review Crew had a chance to see and review and I was honored to be a part of it.
The night started out with the Review Crew getting a chance to meet each other and a brief overview of what’s to come this season. The cool thing about being apart of a group like this is not only getting to see some of the biggest shows to ever hit Broadway but to meet a group of people that share some of your same passions. While we all come from different backgrounds last night we were all pretty passionate about the same thing, The Blue Man Group.
Now this wasn’t my first time seeing The Blue Man Group perform, but as the curtain was going up it felt like it. The Blue Man Group has been around for over 20 years. It was started by a group of 3 friends performing around New York City. Today the group performs all over the world and has immersed themselves into every entertainment medium possible from stage shows, movies, television, and advertisements to name a few. All of this success hasn’t come by accident.
As the show starts you are instantly taken to some kind of alternate reality that feels somewhat futuristic but very primal at the same time. The theater is filled with strong percussion beats and vivid colors; imagine “Cirque Du Soliel” meets “Stomp”. From the first few minutes I was surprised that my initial thoughts were taken from the stage to me creating a mental list of which of my friends and family I was forcibly going to make come to see this show!
When the stars of the show make their appearance you know this isn’t going to be like any show you’ve seen before. The three “Blue Men” are dressed in simple all black outfits and there entire body is a bright blue color (wow, surprise right?). They are entirely mute the whole show and instead express themselves through body language and facial expression only. Throughout the performance their moods go from curiosity to playful to intense to comical to almost childlike. It feels like you’re watching some kind of alien trying passionately to make a connection with the crowd, with which they succeed.
To me the real magic of the Blue Man Group is how good they are at making you feel like you are more than just a body in a seat; they make you feel like you are part of the show and part of the experience. Some of the audience members truly become part of the show like when one of our own, Liliana, was pulled up on stage out of the blue (pun intended) to become an honorary cast member. (I’m sure she’ll have more about that in her review). But, you didn’t have to be actually on stage to feel “apart” of the action. They creatively accomplish that feeling by roaming through the crowd, interacting with guests at their seats, reaching out through live video feeds of the audience, and prompting us to participate in sing-a-longs, dance parties and group reading exercises (you’ll have to see it to know what I’m talking about).
The full performance is an hour and forty minutes long but the Blue Man Group keeps you into the show by successfully stimulating every one of your senses. There are the sounds of the strong percussion beats, and the energetic music. They make you feel curious, engaged, silly, energized, and awestruck at the same time. They literally reach out and touch the audience and then send out huge lit up beach balls (for lack of a better description) for us to play with. The visual impact of the vibrant colors that are the backdrop of the whole show truly help set a surreal mood. For taste, the Blue ManTini’s from the bar is pretty damn good! And smell, okay there wasn’t really any distinguishable scents I can remember but that’s probably a good thing and well 4 of 5 senses is pretty good.
As Gina Veraci, VP of Theatricals at the Playhouse Square, told us she has been trying for 20 years to get the Blue Man Group to Cleveland. Well, they’re here and it was worth the wait because you won’t be disappointed with this show. The show runs through Oct. 17 so there is still time to get your tickets.

Review Crew
Hello,
I wanted to take a second to share with all of you some personal news. This past weekend I was chosen to be a Playhouse Square “Review Crew” member. Now I already know that we have announced that on this site but I thought I’d take a moment to tell you a little bit about what the review crew is all about.
Including myself there are 8 members of the “Review Crew” this year. You can read a little about each of them at www.playhousesquare.org/reviewcrew.
The “Review Crew’ was brought together to help get the word out about one of Cleveland’s biggest assets, Playhouse Square, and the quality shows that it brings to our city. We’ve all been given the challenge to review all of the shows without bias and then help get the word out via social media and good ole’ fashioned word of mouth. It gives people a chance to get an honest opinion on the shows from regular everyday people.
This year’s Broadway series is nothing less than excellent with old school classics like South Pacific, West Side Story and Les Miserable, as well as newer and more contemporary shows like Billy Elliot, Shrek, Blue Man Group and Next to Normal. Plus, we here in Northeast Ohio are pretty lucky to get to see these shows in a great venue. Playhouse Square really mixes the qualities of the quaint theaters you’d find on Broadway with the Classic Architecture and Grandeur of the most classic playhouses in the country.
Playhouse Square’s schedule of shows always has something for everyone and gives us guys an endless idea stream for great date ideas. For the ladies, as my wife will tell you, there is no better “girls night out” than a show at Playhouse and then some fun in the city.
For the perfect night out go to www.playhousesquare.org to get your tickets and then try some of these great Cleveland spots to round out the night;
- The Velvet Tango Room. Simply put one of the coolest spots in Cleveland and a great addition to a night at the theater www.velvettangoroom.com
- La Strada – A great Mediterranean Bistro on E. 4th St.. It has excellent ambiance and Terry, the owner is one of the best restaurateurs in Cleveland. Make sure you ask for him and tell him Tim sent you! http://lastradacleveland.com
- Mallorca – Another phenomenal restaurant in the Warehouse district. With a true Spanish menu and top notch Sea Food you will always walk away happy. www.clevelandmallorca.com
- Plus, all around the Playhouse are great restaurants for a nice dinner or drinks before and after the show.
Keep checking back to hear about all of the shows in the Broadway Series this year and make sure to comment with the shows your excited to see and other Cleveland spots you’d visit to round out your perfect night at the theater.
We’d like to take a second to congratulate on of our own, Tim, co-owner and manager of the Beach Boyz who was chosen last week to be apart of The Playhouse Square “Review Crew”.
The “Review Crew” is a group of theater enthusiasts chosen to review the KeyBank Broadway Series of shows this season. The shows include;
The Blue Man Group, Oct 5-17
Billy Elliot, Nov 19-Dec 12
South Pacific, Feb 1-13
Shrek The Musical, March1-13
Les Miserables, April 5-17
West Side Story, May 3-15
Next To Normal, June 7-19
As you can see it is a great season at Playhouse Square and this is also the first year for the Playhouse “Review Crew” so it is a great honor for Tim and we’re happy that he is representing our company on such a great stage. You can see parts of Tim’s reviews at playhousesquare.org/reviewcrew
We will also be posting Tim’s written reviews of all the shows on this blog to share with all of you, so make sure to follow us here on WordPress and watch out for our Facebook updates!
Just a bit of back patting…
Just last week, we were minding our own business and preparing for another big weekend full of weddings when we got a call. The call basically was a congratulations from Cleveland magazine. A congratulations for what? Our question exactly.
It seems that we were in a running with Cleveland magazine readers for best DJ. The best part? We had no idea. Readers were voting for us and we hadn’t even gotten the chance to make a push for the award. We are completely honored!
Cleveland magazine readers voted for all sorts of things, some off the wall and some very basic. They voted for the best sandwich shop (Melt), the best Cavs player (Mo Williams, not LeBron!) and us for best wedding DJ. It definitely came as a surprise and the fact that we have people who support us is the best part. We know what it takes to succeed in the wedding industry and it has little to do with sales. You’ve got to perform the best that you can at every single wedding, because word of mouth will help you succeed or make you fail. And after this award, we’ve realized that our positive word of mouth is very reflective of the work our DJ’s do at weddings.
We also found out this week that we placed number one for the Best of the Beacon. We were very excited to see that. There is a little section about how we got number one for DJ two years in a row. We also placed third for best videographer. Being that this was our first year in there, we were very proud of that too!
We really appreciate everyone who took the time to vote for us in both Cleveland Magazine and the Akron Beacon Journal. We’re also so glad that you guys enjoyed working with us and choose to share that with your friends and family.
Be sure to check out the rest of the Best of the Beacon winners and pick up the October issue of Cleveland Magazine! Thanks again for all your support. We couldn’t keep doing this without you guys!
Event Review: Derek and Amanda’s Reception
Beach Boyz Entertainment had another wonderful wedding on September 4, 2010 at Blue Heron Country Club in Medina. Donna and Brenda from Blue Heron were perfect hosts for Derek and Amanda’s reception. Joe Wadowick from Wadowick Photography took the pictures as guests danced the night away. Beach Boyz Owner Rich Siebert provided the tunes as well as the interactive dance “The Bird”. Guests joined in the conga line behind Amanda and excitedly participated in the limbo. Line dances such as the Cha Cha Slide, Cupid Shuffle and Electric Slide were in high demand. As the night was wrapping up a wonderful quesadilla bar was presented for a nice late night snack. We wish Derek and Amanda all the best!
